Dieses Lehrbuch basiert auf dem Statistik-Kurs des kürzlich emeritierten Professors für Gartenbau und Entomologie, Helmut van Emden, an der University of Reading und vermittelt vor allem eine Botschaft: Keine Angst vor der Statistik! Van Emden, einer der führenden Insektenforscher seiner Generation, verfasste diesen Band frei von Fachchinesisch und der sonst üblichen Mystifizierung statistischer Methoden. So werden komplizierte Berechnungen und Formeln für jeden Studierenden - auch mit durchschnittlicher mathematischer Begabung - verständlich. Unterstützt wird dieses Konzept durch die beigefügten Übungen am Ende jedes Kapitels, die mit einem einfachen Taschenrechner selbst durchzuführen bzw. leicht nachzuvollziehen sind.
