As defined by the author, proteomics is "the global analysis of proteins. It seeks to achievea complete description of living cells in terms of all their functional components, brought about by the direct analysis of those components rather than the genes that encode them." This is a relatively new term describing a scientific discipline undergoing rapid growth.
This title is part of the Advanced Text Series designed for upper-level undergraduate and graduate students. Various proteomics technologies and their applications are discussed, culminating in a chapter covering applications in the medical and pharmaceutical fields. The book is clearly written and well organized, with a plethora of instructive figures and a useful index. Each chapter ends with a list of suggested further readings.
