Content

This book presents readers with a range of topics that showcase the advantages of the complex biological phenomena of yeast. The first section deals with symmetry breaking, a fundamental process in biology. The book also looks at another important developmental transition in yeast—the switch to a filamentous growth form. Yeast helps us understand mechanisms of prion formation and transmission as well as possible biological roles. Many of the chapters presented also highlight the power of yeast in addressing genomewide problems in biology. Along these lines, chapters also introduce the reader to the rapidly expanding field of comparative genomics, which not only helps tease apart evolutionary kinship but also aids the discovery of functional elements throughout a genome.

This book will inform the reader of a variety of interesting studies undertaken in yeast, employing a broad range of methodology from mathematical modeling to next-generation sequencing. This book:

examines conserved pathways mediating cell cycle progression and cell polarity establishment
discusses examples of yeast regulatory circuits and feedback regulation, with emphasis on system-wide approaches
covers protein interaction networks and trait locus analysis
presents methods and challenges in comparative genomics analysis and evolutionary genetics
